Rivers State Police Command has begun the destruction of some expired explosive materials in its custody.

The exercise, which started on Tuesday, March 12, will last till Friday, March 15. It will be conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the command, 9:00 a.m. daily, at Kporghor Community in Tai Local Council of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, noted that approval was granted to Baker Hughes Company Limited to destroy the explosives.

She urged members of the public not to panic if they hear deafening loud sounds during the exercise. She also assured that precautionary measures have been put in place to avert any danger.

ALSO, operatives of the command discovered the site where the remains of SP Bako Angbashim, a former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, were buried, and subsequently exhumed them.

The spokesperson, in a statement, explained that the feat was achieved by a coordinated joint operation by tactical squads from the command and personnel from Force Intelligence Bureau.

She said the operation, carried out on Sunday, March 10, targeted the camp of the deceased cult leader, Gift Okpara (famously known as 2Baba), situated within the forested region of Odiemude Community, in Ahoada East Local Council.

She said the remains, including the skull of the deceased, have been taken to a mortuary, where they would undergo scientific examination and genetic testing.

She explained that the tests aim to establish the identity of the remains through a comparison with samples obtained from the late officer’s relatives.
