Police arraign four for stealing electrical cables in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned four suspects at the Magistrate’s court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, for allegedly stealing 870 metres of electrical armoured cable.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants: Adekunle Afolami, 53; Olalekan Abass, 38; Kazeem Hammed, 47; Mohammed Abdulkareem, 27, and others at large, did conspire together to commit felony to wit, stealing.

Oriyomi said the defendants stole 870 metres of electrical armoured cable valued at N12.6 million, a property of the Ekiti State Electricity Board.

The prosecutor said Abdulkareem, on February 21, at about 12:00 p.m beside New Central Bank, Ado-Ekiti, did receive stolen electrical armoured cables from the other defendants.

Oriyomi said the offence is punishable under Section 421, 302(1)(a), 343(1) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021. Counsel to the defendants, C. O. Omokafe and Iyanu Olumuwagun, urged the court to grant them bail on the ground that they would provide credible sureties, vowing that they would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Olarewaju Owoleso, consequently granted the defendants bail of N3 million with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till March 20, for hearing.
