Police arraigns lawyer for alleged N19.2m theft, breach of public peace

A lawyer, Kelvin Abiodun Olu, was yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Tinubu for allegedly stealing N19.2 million and damaging property worth N7.5 million.
    
The Zone Two Police Headquarters, Onikan, arraigned the 45-year-old lawyer before Magistrate T. O. Babalola on five-count charge brought against him. His offences border on conspiracy, stealing, malicious damage, assault, and breach of peace on a charge marked L/14/2023.
   
The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Francis Igbenosa, told the court that Olu and his alleged accomplices committed the offences between January 28 and February 4, 2023, at about 11:00p.m. at Ikeja, Lagos State.
   
They were also alleged of stealing a blender valued at N95,000, wireless Bluetooth speaker valued at N15,000, 12 company Glo sim cards and one Airtel sim card.
     
The allegedly stolen items valued by the police at N19,296,300, belongs to Mr. Jude Obiakor and Mrs. Obiakor Onyinye Jacinta. The defendant was further accused of damaging a treadmill valued at N375,000, sofa worth N2.2 million, a North Shore table of N1.875 million and an LG3 French door with ice maker valued at N3 million.
   
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 144, 168(d), 172, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Following Olu’s plea of not guilty, he was admitted to bail on self-recognition. The Magistrate, therefore, adjourned the case to May 22, 2023, for mention.
