Police arrest 15 men for alleged homosexuality

About 15 men have reportedly been arrested in a hidden brothel at the Okota area of Lagos State Nigeria over the weekend for allegedly performing homosexual acts.

According to the police, the brothel is said to be a haven for homosexuals and other criminals.

The suspects were arrested during a raid at the brothel at Okota Lagos State yesterday afternoon. However, some of the men have denied being homosexual.

Contrary to the police allegations, one of the arrested men said he went there to party during his leisure.

Police, however, claimed that some of the suspects already confessed being bisexuals. It is reported that some of the arrested men already mentioned names of their alleged partners.

One of the men arrested, one Mr James Ole disclosed some clubs in Ikeja area of Lagos as hanging out spot for homosexuals and mentioned one, Mr. Shina Adeyemi, as his partner, alongside other suspects who the police is investigating.

Meanwhile, another of the arrested men identified as Yomi Adewuyi has confessed his involvement with few male partners, according to him, he said he dated prior and even recently, amongst his male partners are Amos Adeyemi and Ajayi.

Another suspect identified as Temitope Oladele allegedly confessed his involvement with one Adeboye Oguntuga. and the last one we could interview one Segun Oladipo, confessed being involved with Adeniran Odeshi, his partner.

The police said the suspects and their alleged partners have been invited for questioning, while some others have fled.

The police reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring LGBT, are flushed out and made to face the wrath of the law.

The police warned all LGBT genders in Nigeria to desist from the act as they face imprisonment for their involvement in homosexuality.

In Nigeria, the law criminalises public shows of same-sex ‘amorous’ relationships. As in many conservative African societies, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) people face significant legal and societal discrimination and violence in Nigeria.

The law against same-sex relationships was signed in 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
