Police arrest 83 suspects over various crimes in Enugu

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, yesterday, paraded 83 suspects arrested for allegedly committing various crimes, such as kidnapping, car snatching, gunrunning, ‘one-chance’ robbery and armed robbery.

He said the arrests were made between January and February across the state.

He said about 20 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 46 firearms, 35 stolen exotic cars, six tricycles, a

nd 15 motorcycles were recovered.

Among the suspects were 11 persons arrested in connection with the murder of Igwe Ezugwu Patrick, the traditional ruler of Adani community in Uzo-Uwani Local Council, on December 24, 2023; the kidnapping of Vitalis Nwankwo and four others, who were later released after the payment of a ransom; and the attempted murder of the chairman of the Neighbourhood Watch Group in Adani community.

Uzuegbu identified the suspects as: Henry Ikenna Okafor, 29; Charles Eze, 23; Amobi Okeke, 33; Chukwuma Agu, 38; Emmanuel Udealor (a.k.a. Alhaji), 44; Obeta Friday, 21; Ekwe Ikechukwu, 35; Ugwu Osmond Osita, 49; Nzekwe Chukwuebuka Fidelis, 25; Kingsley Aniche, 35; and Ikowa Isaiah, 29.

The police chief cautioned the officers and men of the Enugu State Command to shun corruption and unprofessionalism.

Uzuegbu also urged rumour-mongers, rabble-rousers and peddlers of fake news in Enugu State to desist forthwith, saying the police would not hesitate to deal with anyone found culpable, in accordance with extant laws, particularly the Cybercrime Act.
