Police arrest man for allegedly kidnapping children

The police in Lagos have arrested a 20-year-old man, Maxwell Nweke, for allegedly kidnapping five boys in Ojurowo, Folumo, in the Isale Eko area of Lagos Island.

The police confirmed that the man kidnapped the children from the ljora area of the state and brought them to Isale Eko in a bid to sell them.

In a video clip trending on X, people were seen gathered around a building said to have been the place where the man was caught.

A person, who was heard speaking in the video, said the suspect confessed that he was going to sell the children for N250,000.

“They caught five children with him. He said he sells each of them for N50,000, making N250,000. They said he brought the five children from ljora. If you know anyone looking for their children in ljora, please, come to Isale Eko in Ojurowo,” the man said.

Confirming the incident to The Guardian yesterday, spokesperson for state command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said officers of Adeniji Adele arrested Nweke in possession of five boys between the ages 8 and 12 years.

The boys had been selling puff-puff.

Hundeyin said investigation revealed that the suspect bought puff-puff worth N200 from one of the boys and immediately paid for it.

Thereafter, the suspect took N500 worth of the snacks and asked the boys to follow him to Lagos Island to collect the money.

“While on the way, the boys suspected that he was luring them to an unknown place, and immediately raised an alarm that led to the arrest. The boys have been reunited with their parents and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
