Police arrest nine suspects over killing of six officers in Delta

Nine persons have been arrested in connection to the killings of six police officers in Ughelli, Delta State.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, dislcosed this on Thursday at a management meeting of the Force.

Egbetokun added that the suspects are currently providing the Force with useful information.

On Saturday, the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the arrest of eight other suspects in connection with the murder of the officers.


Adejobi said five of the suspects were initially arrested shortly after the incident while the other three were apprehended at different locations.

He said the arrest of the additional three was a result of the statements and cooperation of the five initially arrested.

Meanwhile, six other suspects connected with the killings are still at large.

The six police officers were killed at Ohoro forest, in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on February 23, 2024.


Their death came almost at the same period 17 military officers were murdered in Okuama Community also in Delta State.

The soldiers were killed while on a peace mission in Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

During the burial of the soldiers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu awarded posthumous national honours to the 17 soldiers.

Also, the president promised scholarships and houses to the families of the military officers.
