Police arrest three suspects for robbery in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has recovered N76, 000 and a car from arresting three armed robbery suspects in Damaturu.

The arrested persons include 22-year-old military personnel, Hassan Abdulhafiz, of Operation Hadin Kai, 19-year-old Mustapha Abubakar and 25-year-old Samaila Salmanu.

Spokesman of the command, Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement yesterday said the three suspects invaded the residence of Aisha Usman in Sabon Pegi ward while armed with an AK-47 on January 22, 2022, at 10.30. p.m.

“They inflicted injuries on Aisha and her 17-year-old son, Ahmed Umar, after tying them with wire.”
According to him, the suspects allegedly snatched a handset, a 307 Peugeot car, marked NSR 672 DD and N250, 000 at gunpoint.

He added that after receiving distress calls, the police deployed intelligence assets and arrested two suspects in Damaturu, while the third one was picked up with the stolen car in Darazau, Bauchi state.


“The arrested suspect intended to sell the snatched car, before sharing the proceeds with the two suspects in custody,” he said.

According to him, the suspects have since confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted after investigations.

The Police Commissioner, Haruna Garba urged the people to be security conscious by reporting suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station for prompt action.
