Inaugurate electoral offences panel in Sokoto
The Bauchi State Police Command has declared a sitting member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yakubu Shehu, popularly known as ‘Wakilin Birni,’ wanted.

The police also announced a N1 million reward for anyone with useful information that could lead to his arrest.

According to the Special Police Gazette Bulletin with Ref. No. CB: 2685/Bsx/Vol.T/4s with the caption: “Wanted,” the 45-year-old lawmaker is wanted for criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, disturbance of public peace and culpable homicide.

In another development, the Sokoto State Police Command has set up a special team with the mandate to receive, vet and compile complaints, investigate and bring to justice those found involved in perpetrating wrongful conduct before, during and after the elections.

The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Muhammad Ussaini Gumel, said the inauguration was in line with a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to ensure peaceful conduct of gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

He said: “The decision came as a result of the police command’s desire to address concerns raised by members of the public regarding the best way to go in search of quicker means of the dispensation of justice.

“The team, to be led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Isah is comprised of police lawyers, forensic investigation crackers and experts in conducting evidence-based investigations, interrogation and technology-driven prosecution processes for the courts.

“Members of the public, particularly politicians in the state, are hereby advised to consider national interest, love and survival of people above individual or group’s political interests.”
