Police in Katsina quell violence in Danmusa

nigerian_police_babajidesalu.fileThe Police in Katsina State on Saturday said it had quelled violent protest by electorate in Danmusa town, Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relation Officer in the state, DSP Aminu Sadiq, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina that more policemen were deployed to the area to maintain peace and order.

Sadiq said the command was also working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state to  convey election materials to the area for the exercise, which was suspended following the incident.

An eye witness, Malam Sani Iliya of Danmusa, alleged that the incident, which was politically motivated, followed attempt by some politicians to disrupt election process.

The former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly during first republic, Alhaji Abubakar Danmusa, also told NAN that he was in the town when the incident started.

Danmusa, who was also the Deputy Senate President in the second republic, said although he escaped unhurt,  his car was damaged.
