Police in Ogun arrest four suspected cultists, seek information on fleeing leader

The police in Ogun State have arrested four members of the Eiye cult in Ifo Local Council. Police sources said the men were arrested on May 19, at about 10:20 p.m., and that efforts were ongoing to arrest the leader of the group, who is on the run.


Spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement, yesterday.
According to her, intelligence indicated that members of the Eiye confraternity headed by one Lekan (a.k.a. Babalawo) had converged for a meeting at the Fada area of Alaja. She said Lekan topped the list of notorious cultists in Ogun State.

“He is also a prime suspect in a murder case currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where one Monday Anthony, was murdered on February 14, 2024.


“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ifo, went on their trail, and arrested one Kehinde Ismail, 35, ‘m’, Olaiya Ahmed, 29, ‘m’ Joshua David, 36, ‘m’, and Adewunyi Sodiq, 28, ‘m’.

“However, Lekan, again bolted and escaped through unknown terrain. An investigation is currently underway, and the suspects will be transferred to the SCID after preliminary investigations are completed.”

Odutola stressed that violent crimes and criminals were on the decrease in the state, under the watch of the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha. According to her, the CP also called on the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of Lekan.
