Police link ATBU students, one other to murder of two in Bauchi

Students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ABTU) in connection with the gruesome killing of two people at Kuhu Village around Durum Ward in Bauchi council.

The Bauchi State Police Command said it has arrested two students of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ABTU) in connection with the gruesome killing of two people at Kuhu Village around Durum Ward in Bauchi council.

According to the Command’s Spokesman, Ahmed Wakil on Friday, a complaint was logged on 18th of February at about 09:20 am at Durum outstation in Kuhu village that a lifeless body of a young man yet to be identified was lying down in a bush in the outskirt of Kuhu village.

Policemen were detailed to the scene and the body was evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for medical examination, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor

Also, a day after the incident, another case of a lifeless body was found and reported to the Police. Wakil said that Police observed the location and noticed the footsteps of some people. It later discovered the dead body was deposited at the Teaching Hospital.


“The corpses were viewed and no physical injury or mark of violence or strangulation was observed, the two eyes of the last body recovered were forcefully punctured, the corpse was also deposited at the same hospital, no means of identification found with both corpses,” Wakil said.

“Earlier before the information on the second corpse, on the same 18th of February at 6:30pm three suspects namely: Hoomvez Martins Nyelong; aka slin 27 years, Daniel Audu Adamu 26 years and Maigari Inuwa; aka Mega Fashion World 29 years were seen roaming about around the area, they were arrested and failed to give a satisfactory account of their mission in the area.

“Two of the suspects are students of ATBU Bauchi while one of them claimed to have graduated from University of Jos. Investigation suspected them to be members of a cult group behind the gruesome killing of the two deceased.


“Exhibits recovered at the scene include: pieces of razor blades, empty bottles of water, empty bottles of alcohol, empty sachets of water, candles, sticks with blood stains, torn short trousers.”

He added that further investigation revealed that the first suspect (Hoomvez Martins Nyelong) was seen in the area where the first corpse was found with two others in the early hours of Sunday 18th of February.

The Police authority said that his WhatsApp chats found in his mobile phone revealed that he was the one that dropped off the first corpse whose relatives appeared and identified him to be one Reheboth Joseph Deshi, 32 years old of Rafin Zurfi Yelwa area Bauchi.

“While an investigation is still ongoing, efforts have been intensified to burst their enclaves and arrest the remaining accomplice,” he said.
