Police nab 24-year-old lady for dumping her baby inside well

The Police in Delta State have arrested 24-year-old Sofia Nkwor for reportedly dumping her 13-month-old child inside a well along the road in Araya community, Isoko South Local Council of the state.


Nkwor, who was arrested on April 28, for alleged infanticide, was paraded by the Police alongside 14 other suspects, who allegedly committed various crimes, across the state.

Narrating her story to The Guardian at the Police headquarters, Nkwor said she dumped the child on April 26, because the child’s father refused to accept the baby, while her family abandoned her to face the consequences.

While lamenting her actions, Nkwor explained that she breast fed the baby for some months but could not cope anymore due to the prevailing economic hardship in the country.


But, the commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, while parading the suspects, said a case of infanticide was reported against Nkwor at Oleh Division, that she “dump her child in a well along the road in Araya community.

According to the police boss, children who went to play around the tree discovered the abandoned child floating on the well.
“Then, the mother was immediately arrested and she stated that she dumped the child on April 26,” he said.

The CP also paraded one Chiemenam Adigwe, ‘m’, 45, who was arrested at his hideout in Bomadi with over 100 bottles of fake Gordons, Chelsea, Eagle Schnapps and McDowells.


He said: “On April 25, at about 11:00., the Command received an intelligence report about a suspect who produces fake alcoholic drinks in Bomadi.

“I directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bomadi Division to work on the intel and ensure that the suspect is tracked down, arrested and brought to book.

“In compliance with my directive, the DPO Bomadi division led operatives to the hideout where one Chiemenam Adigwe, a native of Akpo community in Aguata Local Council of Anambra State was arrested and over 100 bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, Eagle Schnapps and McDowells were recovered.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect mixes ethanol with water and adds flavour to it, then packages these fake drinks in empty bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, and McDowells, which he usually buys from Onitsha.”

According the him, the suspect said he always lied to his customers that he usually order the drinks from Onitsha, and all are original.
