The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended Abdulazeez Idris for the abduction and murder of a six-year-old girl, Aisha Saidu, in the Zaria area of the state.

Idris, said to be a cousin brother to the victim, was apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Kaduna.

Spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement yesterday, said Aisha Saidu, a resident of Angwan Juma’a, Zaria, went missing on her way to Islamiyya school on February 12, 2024.

According to him, her father, Mr Saidu Dahiru, reported her disappearance to the Zaria City Police station, suspecting foul play by her cousin brother, Abdulazeez Idris.

“The investigation took a grim turn when Abdulazeez was traced and arrested in Makarfi Local Council. He confessed to the heinous crime, admitting to abducting Aisha and brutally murdering her by slashing her neck with a razor blade. Abdulazeez then callously dumped her lifeless body in a nearby well,” Hassan said.

He added that following the girl’s disappearance, Mr Dahiru received a phone call from an unknown individual, later identified as the perpetrator, demanding a ransom of N8,000,000, for her safe return.

“The case was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the SCID Kaduna, where they traced and arrested the perpetrator, identified as Abdulazeez Idris, in Makarfi Local Council. The suspect confessed to the heinous crime, admitting to slaying the innocent child by brutally slashing her neck with a razor blade on the account that she recognized him and then went on to dispose her lifeless body in a well.

“The Commissioner of Police, Audu Ali Dabigi, assures members of the public that the case is going to be diligently investigated to ensure that justice is served for Aisha Saidu and her grieving family. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed,” Hassan added.
