Police nab three for public disturbance in Lagos

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested three suspects in Shasha, in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State, for staging a street carnival without recourse to existing laws regulating the use of speakers in public places.

The suspects: Julius Osimirin, 43; Isiaka Kabiru, 16; and Ajewole Ajugba, 42, were arrested on Abatti Street, as they were setting the stage for the carnival.

The arrest was sequel to directives of the Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, to RRS Commander, Olayinka Egbeyemi, to bring to book any person breaking the laws.

Fayoade had earlier met with organisers of the carnival, advising them to get a hall and desist from shutting down streets or disturbing public peace.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects would be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigations.
