Police nab three over murder of Bolt driver in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a Bolt driver, Obasi Okeke, in Abuja.


The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Haruna Garba, who disclosed this while parading suspected criminals in Abuja, said the suspects, Obasieyene Inemesit Inem, Aaron Anthony, and Alasan Ayomide Olusegun, students of Bingham university, two of whom are on suspension from the institution, were arrested when the victim was found lying in the pool of his blood, with a slit throat at Ngugu close Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

He said investigation to ascertain the perpetrator of the dastardly act, led to the arrest of the three suspects.

According to him, in the course of investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was a Bolt driver called by one of the suspects to convey them to Guzape Area to buy Cannabis sativa


But after returning the suspects to their take off point, they discovered they had no money to pay for their trip and decided to play a fast one by showing the deceased a fake debit alert on their phone, but the driver insisted that he had not received any alert.

“In the ensuing argument, one of the suspects brought out a knife, slit the deceased’s throat and fled from the scene,” he said.

The CP said the three suspects, who had confessed to committing the crime, would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

Garba said the Command also arrested a scavenger for alleged abduction of a three-year-old boy, in Nyanya area of Abuja.

He said the suspect was arrested on July 13, by police operatives from Nyanya Divisional Headquarters, following actionable intelligence.

“The suspect had lured the boy and when he was going with him with the full compliments of his scavenging materials, he was suspected and about to be lynched by angry mobs at area ‘B’ Nyanya.

“The boy was rescued and the suspect arrested. In the course of investigation, he confessed to the crime and mentioned one Abba as his co-accomplice who engaged him to carry out the act.

“The rescued boy has since been handed over to his parents, while the suspect will soon be charged to court,” he added.
Also, Garba said operatives from the Command had on June 16, arrested a notorious car thief.

He said the suspect, one Ibrahim Jibrin of Rayfield Jos, Plateau State, 29, had visited an automatic car wash in Area 10, Garki area of Abuja and pretended to buy a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 Jeep valued N14, 000,000.

The CP said the suspect had demanded to test drive the vehicle and was obliged.


According to him, the suspect zoomed off with the vehicle to an unknown location only to be arrested three weeks later with the vehicle in Jos by the Police.

Garba also disclosed that the Command, on July 18, arrested three suspects over kidnapping in the Jikwoyi area of the FCT.

He said the suspects were arrested following actionable intelligence and with the support of a patriotic individual.
The CP said the suspects had called their victim on phone with a threat to kidnap the victim.

“ Suspects arrested will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.
