Rivers State Police Command has identified and arrested some of its officers for allegedly kidnapping and extorting $3000 from a man in Aba, Abia State.

The arrest of the officers followed a complaint from an activist known as Harrison Gwanishu on social media handle, X, allegedly accusing the officers of extortion.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement, said that the police officers kidnapped the man in Aba, took him to Bayelsa State and to Ughelli in Delta State, where they forced him to transform $3000 into their wallet.

She added that the officers later brought the man to Port Harcourt before freeing him.

Iringe-Koko, however, said the arrest was made possible after the state Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu ordered an immediate investigation.

She added that the officers are being investigated and the outcome would be made public as soon as it is concluded.
