• Suspected drugs dealers nabbed
The Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP), Abaniwonda Olufemi, has arrested and detained officers involved in the alleged shooting of the vigilante commander of Idjerhe Kingdom and two of his men in Ethiope West Local Council of the state
The CP’s action followed recent protests by the community’s women who demanded that those behind the shooting of the vigilante operatives be brought to book.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to commence full-scale investigation into the incident.
Consequently, officers involved were identified and ordered to undergo internal disciplinary action.
According to Edafe, the CP reiterated that it’s not in the character of the command to trample on the rights of citizens or use rifles without recourse to Force Order 237.
The CP assured that the affected officers will be dealt with in accordance with extant laws as stipulated in the Police Act and Regulations, to serve as a deterrent to others.
He noted that under his watch, such conduct by officers of the command will not be tolerated.
He, therefore, appealed to members of the public, particularly indigenes of Idjerhe Kingdom, and families of the injured vigilantes who are currently receiving treatment, to remain calm, assuring them of justice.
MEANWHILE, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to Delta State Police command have arrested three suspected drug dealers in Asaba, the state capital.
The suspects are: Lucky Emmanuel, ‘m’, of Ughelli, 40; Enunwuune Snu, ‘m’, 46; and Jacob Efedeye, ‘m’, 32.
They were arrested on February 7, at about 11:00 p.m.when the operatives were conducting a stop-and-search procedure at Head-Bridge, Asaba.
Edafe said the officers flagged down a Toyota Hiace bus for a routine check, and found the persons with some suspected hard drugs.
The spokesperson explained that during the search, three cartons containing 100 bottles of CSC Codeine and 400 sachets of 250mg of Tramadol, and some other suspected hard drugs were recovered.
He also confirmed the arrest of one Fidelis Akpos for being in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges.
He said the suspect was nabbed recently, at about 8:00 p.m., when men of the Dragon Patrol were conducting a stop-and-search operation along Kwale-Ogwashi-Uku expressway.
