The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of seven upcoming artistes and undergraduates at a music studio on Tuesday morning.

Confirming the development, spokesperson for the command, ASP Musa Mohammed, lamented the tragic death of the aspiring artistes, who were in the studio to fine-tune their work.

He said the police evacuated six bodies of the victims to a morgue while the remaining person who was rushed to the hospital eventually gave up. He said investigation had commenced.

Recall that the quiet street of Transformers Road, Amarata, a suburb of Yenagoa, was thrown into mourning early Tuesday morning as seven persons lost their lives after inhaling generator fumes in a music studio.

The deceased were said to be working at the recording studio, owned by one of them, identified as Akpos Barakubo, when the incident happened. Four of the artistes were said to be of the same mother and hailed from Ammasoma, Southern Ijaw Local Council.

It was also gathered that most of the deceased were undergraduates of the Niger Delta University (NDU), and had been involved in the recording business to help themselves at school.

At the time of filing the report, security operatives had cordoned off the area, while the corpses had been evacuated to the mortuary at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Yenagoa.

A resident of the area, Mr Damian Asamonye, who spoke with journalists, blamed the government and power distribution company for the deaths, saying if there had been adequate power supply, there wouldn’t have been any need to use generators at night.
