The Police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into the death of a 42-year-old man, Gihan Mbelu, found unconscious in his C300 4Matic car in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Mbelu was found unconscious at about 10:10a.m. on Friday, when people decided to inspect his vehicle which had been running for hours at the spot where it was parked around VGC, in the Ajah area of the state. Concerned by the discovery, some of the people in the area, upon close observation of the vehicle, found Mbelu in it.

While some people speculated that the man might be sleeping, some other persons, who were bent on ascertaining Mbelu’s true state, reportedly made frantic efforts to wake him up but it proved abortive.

In a bid to rescue Mbelu, it was learnt that he was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where he was reportedly confirmed dead by one of the doctors on duty. Mbelu’s corpse was reportedly deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

The case was also reported to the police for an investigation to commence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death. It was learnt that the deceased was the husband of the Founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Endeavor Nigeria, Eloho Gihan-Mbelu.

Responding on his X handle, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said investigation has commenced. Meanwhile, a man simply identified as Azeez has become the latest person to be drowned in Lagos lagoon.

A director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in charge of operation in Lagos central, reported that he received a call that there was an incident at Lekki/Ikoyi link bridge.

On getting there, he met a large crowd gathered by the water side, watching the lifeless body of a man who had drowned, who was later identified as Azeez. He was later confirmed dead by paramedics of pre-hospital care Lagos.

Hundeyin said it was later discovered that one Elijah Amos was pursuing the deceased before the deceased jumped into the lagoon, because he was alleged to have stolen some bags of cement.

“The scene was visited while the corpse has been evacuated and deposited at mainland general hospital mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation. Investigation in progress,” he said.
