Normalcy has been restored in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos State after several people were injured in a violent clash that disrupted activities at a nearby market.
The Guardian learned that the fight started in the market situated in the area on Wednesday night and continued till yesterday morning before the state’s Police Command deployed more officers to quell it.
It was gathered that attempts at early intervention were thwarted by the hoodlums and the police have to re-enforce to curtail the incident.
Furthermore, the hoodlums had attacked a fire service truck sent to the scene on Thursday morning with stones and compelled it to retreat before the reinforcement.
Sources said some shops were set on fire while several goods were destroyed in the process. While the Police claimed that the cause of the clash was unknown, sources alleged that it was a tribal clash.
Speaking on the incident, spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin said they were able to restore normalcy.
He, however, could not ascertain the cause of the clash.
He said: “Area Commanders, all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and officers were deployed with the instruction of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fayoade Adegoke.
“There was no casualty and no arrest made yet but we have commenced investigation.”
