Credible sources within the Nigeria police have denied reports that Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun withdrew police officers attached to top politicians.

Reports at the weekend claimed that Egbetokun sanctioned the withdrawal of police officers from former governors, lawmakers, and other top politicians.

The rumoured directive listed those affected as including former governors, senators, ministers, and family members of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

But senior officials declined to comment on the speculations when quizzed by our correspondent.

When contacted, a source at the Police Public Relations Unit, Force Headquarters told The Guardian: “I am not aware. I will find out from the IGP.”

A top MOPOL boss at the Police headquarters, who pleaded anonymity told the Guardian that it is fake news.

“Don’t join them in broadcasting fake information. It is not true we withdrew policemen attached to politicians,” the official told The Guardian.
