Police to review election guidelines on election duties to protect

The Police high authority has said that it would review its election guidelines to accommodate journalists covering election duties.

This was made known by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while speaking during a Twitter Space organised by the Wole Soyinka Centre on the topic, ‘How safe were journalists during 2023 elections?’

Adejobi said this has become necessary based on several video reports on attack on journalists covering the just concluded general election; with some having their cameras and recorders vandalised by thugs hired by some politicians.

He said: “There was a pocket book we published on election duty guidelines for officers. I think we are going to make an amendment to that. For other elections we want to have, we are going to review these guidelines to include protection of journalists and observers that will be moving up and down on election duty.”
