Police uncover gun workshop, arrest armourer in Cross River

Suspect with exhibits

The police in Cross River State have uncovered a workshop where guns are fabricated at Ebom village, Abi Local Council of the state. The operation, which lasted hours on June 11, was led by the State Security Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu, General Obono Eno (rtd).

During the operation, the owner, a yet-to-be named man believed to be in his 50s was arrested, while an unspecified number of arms, ammunition and other items were recovered.

Some of these included locally made RPG guns, AK-47 rifles, pistols, large amounts of bullets, fabricating and welding machines. Ebom is one of many villages in Abi council which has taken up arms against its neighbours over land disputes.

Recall that Ebom and its neighbour, Ebijakara, had, some years ago, engaged in a war that sacked the latter completely. Till date, the people of Ebijakara remain scattered without a traditional ruler or a place to call home.
