An eight-month-old baby sold for N800,000, approximately $533, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, is yet to be rescued, and the police are yet to ascertain the location of the buyer.

The Guardian learnt that the baby was reportedly sold by a maid, identified as Ruth Okezie, on Saturday, February 3.

The baby was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday.
Narrating the incident, a friend of the baby’s father, identified simply as Danilton, said: “An eyewitness said the maid was acting as if she was hypnotised. We are praying for the baby to be found. The maid confessed she sold the baby for N800,000.

“We’ve been trying to reach the person she sold the baby to but all efforts have proved abortive at this time. We are really hoping and praying for the safe return and wellbeing of the baby.”

When contacted, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “The buyer is yet to be apprehended and the eight-month-old baby is yet to be rescued.”

“The suspect is currently in our custody, and we are working hard to rescue the child from the buyer.”
