Osun State Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke and an unnamed traditional ruler were moved to tears over the seeming crisis regarding the leadership control in local government councils.
It is worth recalling that judgments delivered by the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure in February stalled the release of monthly allocations to the 30 local governments in the state.
However, while addressing teachers in Ede, during a digital literacy training programme organised by the state government in collaboration, Eluwole urged them to pray for the state leaders.
He stated, “I used to say that Osun is peaceful. What happened in Rivers State is not up to 10 per cent of Osun State’s if not that we imbibe the Omoluabi ethos during the crisis.
“There was peace before, but with what is going on now, the wrangling here, I slept around 2 a.m. today. I left the Government House around 11:00 pm. After leaving, I started calling till 2 a.m. There is a serious problem at hand.
“On Saturday, Mr Governor wept for 15 minutes before he could start a meeting, 15 minutes! They were pacifying him. Where is Nigeria going? It is not a sin to be a Nigerian, please and please continue to do that thing that you are doing to make Nigeria progress.
“So please, let us watch our leaders and pray for them, God will guide their feet from stumbling, they will not lead us astray. I saw a traditional ruler who shed tears over what is going on.
“We know what has been happening before about three years ago in the education sector, you can see what is going on now, Osun State education is to be reckoned with today. We are making Nigeria proud, unlike before, where it was vandalism, hooliganism, raping, cultism…all are the things of the past in our schools.
“Are you talking about infrastructure? If not for what has been happening since February, we would have seen many provisions in the school now; they are in the pipeline.
“The money we are supposed to be using for these things is what we are using to pay primary school teachers, local government workers, health workers and five per cent to traditional rulers; everybody is taking their money as at when due. That is why we don’t have more teachers in schools. Let us pray for Osun State and our governor, he means good for the state.”
