Ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako, have begun talks that are expected to merge into a formidable structure that may unseat President Bola Tinubu in his second term in office.
Sources close to the meeting between Atiku and Nyako told journalists on Saturday that with the commitments extracted from each side and the influence of the two political gladiators, Nigeria and Adamawa politics will record changes ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The source added that with the massive goodwill and unprecedented support enjoyed by the two prominent politicians, it is expected that any candidate they support in the next governorship election in Adamawa will have an easy victory, while the success of the candidate is assured.
“The last general election was basically between Nyako, who supported the APC candidate Aishatu Binani, and Atiku, who threw his weight behind the incumbent governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State.
“The two political gladiators were able to cumulatively pull close to 700,000 votes. So if these two political giants come together to support one candidate, no force on earth could trounce that candidate,” the source added.
Besides, another source close to the meeting, which took place at the Abuja residence of former Governor Nyako, noted that disturbed by the current economic turmoil, social insecurity, poverty, and unprecedented hunger ravaging the country, especially in the North, the two political gladiators decided to forget their differences, forge a new front, and pool strength together to chart a paradigm shift for the country in order to prevent it from sinking further.
“The two politicians decided to form this patriotic pact in order to save Nigeria from sinking further. You don’t need to be told that Nigeria is currently on the brink of total collapse, occasioned by the unfriendly and highly insensitive policies of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government.
“Nyako is one Nigerian with vast national and international connections who has paid his dues as a retired general, a former military and civilian governor, and an astute statesman. He commands tremendous respect in both military and civilian circles. He is one of the critical arrowheads behind the formation of APC, who worked tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory both at the federal level and in Adamawa State during the 2015 general election.
“So anyone he backs in the presidential election will surely record considerable electoral milestones. The same thing will happen in Adamawa State politics. So with the coming together of these forces, the 2027 general election will be very interesting,” the source disclosed.
When asked whether the issue of the 2027 general election was discussed between the two politicians, considering that Atiku Abubakar is an interested party, our source said the issue of the 2027 general election is not currently on the table, adding that “the immediate concern of these two political giants is how to chart a new course for Nigerians, who are going through record hardship, and save Nigeria from going adrift.
“Anything can happen along the line. Just like I enumerated the strength of Nyako, Atiku is also not a pushover, and with the new alliances and permutations currently shaping up ahead of 2027, anything can happen. But I want to assure you that these two statesmen will take the best decision in the interest of Nigeria and Adamawa State,” the source stressed.
