GMT trains directors, unveils strategy to galvanise grassroots for Tinubu

The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) has trained its new directors in a high-powered seminar aimed at equipping them with the tools to sensitise communities across Nigeria about the achievements of the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Led by its Patron, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, the movement outlined a comprehensive strategy centred on engagement and mobilisation, drawing vital lessons from the 2023 general elections to establish a strong foundation for 2027.

In his keynote address, Mr. Ayinde charged the newly inaugurated directors to move beyond traditional campaigning, framing their mission as one of deep connection with the people.

“We are not campaigning. What we are doing at GMT is engagement, sensitisation, and mobilisation. It is about giving you the message, tools, and confidence to go back to your community, local government and state to galvanize the people for the success of our party in 2027,” he said.

Reflecting on the previous election cycle, Ayinde delivered a sobering analysis. “The lesson from the 2023 general election, especially in Lagos, was that we were so complacent and confident that we were going to win, but we were caught unawares. To this day, we still bury our heads in shame for losing that election in the President’s home state.”

He identified key challenges from 2023 that GMT is designed to overcome: unexpected losses in strongholds, voter apathy among youth, a messaging gap filled by opposition narratives, and internal divisions.

“The good news is that every challenge is an opportunity. Our Directors must be storytellers. For every doubt, we will provide evidence of progress.
Youth engagement is key. Go directly to the youth, students, artisans, the digital community, and social media users,” he said.

He provided the directors with a compendium of President Tinubu’s achievements, highlighting bold economic reforms like the end of the fuel subsidy and exchange rate unification. He also cited advancements in security through modern military equipment, transformative infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, agricultural support to ensure food security and the implementation of the student loan scheme in the education sector.

“Personal interests must never overshadow the collective mission.
If we correct yesterday’s mistakes, we will secure tomorrow’s victory. United we win, divided we lose,” he admonished.

Earlier, the representative of the Minister of Interior, Mr. Bode Obanla, praised GMT as a very organised group and lauded Lagos as the citadel of politics in Nigeria.

“The Southwest must be locked down 100 per cent for President Tinubu. But we know that for us to deliver, we need to move beyond the Southwest. Election is not by luck but by hard work, a lesson we learned from Tinubu,” Obanla stated.

In his welcome address, the Director-General of GMT, Mr. Bisi Yusuf, clarified the movement’s identity and purpose. “At the heart of this movement is a shared vision to mobilise strong grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to amplify the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He emphasised that GMT is not a political party but a people-driven movement with a clear purpose to unify voices from the grassroots and ensure President Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria is felt in every home and community.

The seminar, attended by Directors-General and Directors from states including Delta, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Lagos, marked the formal commencement of GMT’s nationwide sensitisation campaign.
