Pledges support in fight against corruption, terrorism

THE State of Israel has congratulated President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, promising to assist in the war against terror and corruption. The country also committed to helping Nigeria in its efforts to develop the agriculture sector.

In a congratulatory letter signed by President Reuven Rivlin and delivered by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Uri Palti, Israel explained that it’s resolve to forge an alliance with Nigeria was borne out of the need to defeat a common enemy, the Boko Haram Islamic terrorist group, which has now aligned itself with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The message, which was delivered to the President-elect yesterday in Abuja, stated that the two countries faced “similar dangers and challenges in our daily struggle against those who want to terrorise our citizens.

“The latest news regarding the Boko Haram-ISIS alliance underscores the need for like-minded countries to unite in the fight against such radical terrorist organisations.

“I assure you that in this important campaign, Israel stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Nigeria. “I wish you every success in the challenging task ahead and trust that, under your presidency, the relations of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Israel will continue to expand and strengthen.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.” Responding, General Buhari expressed his warm appreciation of the Israeli gesture and pledged to work with all countries to their mutual benefits.

We thank Israel for their kindness but they should put their house in order before assisting others.

We the people believe in the two state solution of Israel & Palestine living side by side in peace. Israel should please focus on granting independence to the Palestinians (either 2-state or one state) and ensuring that the Palestinians can vote for who leads them and that the vote would count. We the people are forever on the side of the oppressed people of the world – this has been the Nigerian legacy which saw to the freedom in Southern Africa and else where. Netanyahu called Jonathan to have our UN rep make a sharp departure from this by abstaining on a crucial vote for the Palestinians path to self-determination at the UN. We the people would advise our President-Elect to be very careful about Israel under Netanyahu who has sworn that the Palestinians would not have a state so long as he is prime minister.

Nigeria needs to be friends with Israel. The sooner Nigeria realizes the stupid religious zealots who attack Israel are morons, the sooner we will progress. The Jewish people have always done business in Nigeria. They are good business people. Keep politics out of the way. May Nigeria find the proper channels to create a dynamic political system. May God bless Nigeria.
