Highlights ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’s gains at stakeholders’ meeting
In a concerted effort to deepen participatory governance and align state-level initiatives with federal policy direction, the Lagos State House of Assembly has supported indigent residents with various interventions across constituencies as part of activities to mark its 10th yearly constituency stakeholders’ meeting.
The stakeholders’ meeting was launched by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, in 2015, an initiative that allows all lawmakers in the House to conduct constituency stakeholders’ meetings simultaneously across all the state’s 40 constituencies.
Obasa, yesterday, noted that the initiative remains a vital platform for engaging citizens, strengthening accountability, and reinforcing the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that the programme serves as an avenue for lawmakers to interact directly with their constituents, address developmental concerns, and highlight the impact of ongoing government policies at both the state and federal levels.
In Apapa Constituency 1, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mojisola Meranda, who distributed food items, awarded scholarships to five outstanding students, and gave out cash rewards to selected beneficiaries, noted that the interventions were aimed at supporting vulnerable residents and encouraging academic excellence among youths.
Meranda noted that the beneficiaries of the scholarship were drawn from students previously supported through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and back-to-school programmes, who have now progressed to tertiary institutions, adding that other ongoing initiatives in the constituency include a youth summer boot camp and the ongoing Blue Line Rail project, which passes through the area.
She also noted that 11 road projects are expected to commence in the constituency soon under the supervision of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Public Works Corporation to ease transportation challenges and improve access within the community.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has praised the Tinubu-led administration for its bold reforms and transformative projects, highlighting the significant progress made on security, economic reforms, human capital development and infrastructure.
Obasa, who underscored the tangible benefits of good governance, as well as the achievements of Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda” and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, highlighted the government’s increased funding for security forces and the procurement of advanced military equipment, which led to the neutralisation of two prominent bandit leaders.
He said that the administration’s fiscal policies and revenue-generating mechanisms had boosted investors’ confidence, diversified the economy, and led to an improved credit rating.
