A renowned social group in Lagos Omo Eko Pataki Forum Thursday endorsed Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for the Lagos state governorship election.

The governorship election will hold on Saturday, March 18, with Rhodes-Vivour, tipped to defeat the incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“He is sound in health and he is also cerebrally efficient,” said Chief Bode George, on behalf of the group at an event in Lagos. George said he had no doubt in his mind that Rhodes-Vivour would make a good governor.

Former Lagos state deputy governor Koforowola Bucknor, who also spoke at the event, said it was time for Lagos state to be wrestled away from the grips of a “one person”.

She said the state could no longer afford to have “somebody to come and be taking our wealth and using it only for his family, friends and associates.”

Analysts said that 40-year-old Rhodes-Vivour represents a new future for Lagos and could reposition one of the Largest economies in Africa.

The Labour Party’s candidate has run an ambitious campaign that focused on unleashing the vast economic potential of Nigeria’s commercial capital, harnessing the benefits of its diversity, and making it a positive reference around the world.

“The kind of politics we are playing today is unfortunate,” Rhodes-Vivour said in a campaign video seen on Thursday. “It is trying to destroy the harmony of Lagos, which is the basis of its excellence and it being the commercial capital of Nigeria. But we won’t allow that.”
