Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, claiming that President Bola Tinubu sleeps better because of him.

Bamidele said this during a celebration of Akpabio’s 62nd birthday, hosted by Senate spokespersons in Abuja on Monday.

The majority leader claims that the president takes Akpabio’s words “very seriously.”

Bamidele said, “I know one of the reasons he (Tinubu) is able to sleep well is because he has you (Akpabio) as the president of the Senate.

“He trusts you. He depends on you. Mr. President of the Senate, we are all very proud of you.

“I’m standing with my colleagues. I’m always privileged to speak on their behalf and I know I’m not saying anything other than what they expect me to say.

“We are very proud of you. We just want to thank you for who you are and we want to thank you for the kind of leadership that you provide.”

Despite Bamidele’s claim that Tinubu “sleeps well,” reports suggest that the president works late at night.

Last month, in October, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North in the National Assembly, said President Tinubu moves around the Federal Capital Territory most nights to feel the pulse of the citizens.

“The President himself knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well. The president some nights uses his car to go around and know what is happening in Abuja here,” Kalu said during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s former spokesperson, made a similar remark during a conversation with on-air personality Chude Jideonwo in March.

Ngelale said Tinubu wakes up early every day and does not go to bed until around 2 am or 3 am.

Ngelale said, “I’m saying hang in there because I can see an end to this. I’m working with a man who I can personally vouch for because he’s going to bed at 2 am to 3 am every night, including Sundays.

“He [Tinubu] wakes up at 7 am to 8 am every morning including Sundays. Opening his files, working into the late nights when no one is there to say anything good or bad about him. He is doing the work.”
