Potreck becomes Transcorp Hilton’s new GM

Mr. Joerg Potreck has been appointed as the new General Manager, Transcorp Hilton Abuja. Potreck would be bringing on board, an impressive hospitality background that has spanned over four decades. Within this period, he spent about 20 years serving as the General Manager in various locations including Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, South Africa and Egypt.
  
He returned to Hilton following his recent role as the General Manager at the Johari Rotana Hotel, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He started his career as a Management Trainee in Germany in 1982 and progressed through the ranks before his first General Manager position at the Westin Leipzig, Germany 2004. His previous positions include Cluster General Manager at Hilton Hurghada Plaza and Hilton Alexandria Corniche, Egypt as well as Cluster General Manager at the Hilton Cologne and Hilton Bonn in Germany.
  
In his new role as the G.M, Transcorp Hilton Abuja, he would be leading a team of over 1,800 members, managing all aspects of the hotel’s operational and commercial functions to drive guests’ satisfaction.

Speaking at the official ceremony held last weekend to announce the new G.M, the Vice President, Operations, Africa and Indian Ocean, Hilton, Andreas Lackner, said the hotel was to welcome him back to the Hilton family.
  
“With an impressive hospitality background, Jorg is a seasoned hotelier who brings onboard a wealth of experience to lead one of our flagship properties on the continent. I am confident that he will help us deliver purposeful service and meaningful experiences to our guests and Team Members alike.”
  
Responding, Potreck said the hotel has remained a national treasure and landmark facility for business and leisure.
  
“I am thrilled to return to Hilton to lead the incredible team at Transcorp Hilton Abuja. Since the hotel begun operations in 1987, nearly three decades ago, it has remained a national treasure and landmark hotel for business and leisure travelers alike, setting the benchmark for hospitality standards in Nigeria.
  
“I also look forward to developing local talent by creating personalized learning experiences and partnerships that helps the team actualize their career goals.”He also pledged to ensure that the hotel l continually stand out among the 3,500 registered hotels in FCT through exceptional service delivery.
 
“We are right now number one in TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice awards and I hope we continue doing this. The team is wonderful, we put a lot of effort to make sure that our guests are comfortable and this is my job to make sure that it continues like this.
 
“Our service delivery is exceptional throughout all the departments and for many years, we have been in the market to ensure that we cater for businesses and leisure in Abuja and we want to continue doing this. Our services are multiple; we have several restaurants and bars, night clubs and a casino.

“Basically, this is a city in a hotel and whenever you want to have good entertainment, you come to the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. We will look after you; none can offer what we offer”, he said.
  
Talking about the business of hospitality, he projected the revenue from hotel market in Nigeria to hit $1.52billion by the end of 2024. With an annual growth rate of 4.46 per cent during the period of 2024 to 2028, he said the industry is expected to witness a remarkable market volume of $1.81billion by 2028.
