About 100 pressure groups, under the umbrella of The Green Alliance (TGA), at the weekend, took Abuja by storm with the campaign urging the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to join the 2023 presidential race.

The convener, Wale Fapohunda, said there was no need to look elsewhere for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor to turn around the fortunes of the country.

He said: “The Green Alliance as a movement is one of the numerous groups that is saying we want Dr. Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele to take over from Baba Buhari.

“If you look at Emefiele’s activities as CBN Governor, you will see that there is nobody in this government, and I say it with all sense of responsibility and challenge anybody to a debate, that nobody in this present government has supported the programmes of Baba Buhari more than Godwin Emefiele.

“It is clear and the facts are there for us to see. We are in Abuja, and I am not surprised at the level of support Emefiele is getting from Abuja.

“He said when Buhari took over in 2015, he moved for the diversification of the economy to invest in agriculture.

“Immediately Emefiele keyed into this, we are seeing various and remarkable interventions in this sector of the Nigerian economy.

“We all saw the rice pyramids. As we speak, Nigeria has ceased from being an importer of rice to a net exporter of rice and it is because of the friendly monetary policy of Emefiele.”

Fapohunda continued: “He has supported women, he has supported the youths, he supported all the President has achieved today in terms of infrastructure development.”

He said before 2015, there was no train from Abuja to Kaduna, adding: “Now there is train, there was no train from Lagos to Ibadan, the second Niger Bridge is now 95 per cent completed.”
