Private varsities deserve portion of TETFUND intervention, support, says VC

Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Edo State, Prof.  Lawrence Ezemonye, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to support the development of private universities in the country by allowing them be beneficiary in the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) intervention project.


Speaking during a press briefing in Okada, Edo State, ahead of activities to commemorate the institution’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, Ezemonye stressed the need for government support in the area of intervention for private universities.

He said government support will go a long way in addressing some challenges faced by private universities over the years, saying: “Private universities deserve a portion of TETFUND intervention and support.”

Ezemonye said Igbinedion University Okada, which is the first premier private university in Nigeria, has achieved remarkable successes in teaching, research, capacity building, innovative studies and, most significantly, the production of exceptional graduates in diverse fields of human endeavour who are contributing their quota to national and global development.

According to him, activities lined up to mark the epoch-making ceremony include the 25th Anniversary Colloquium and commissioning of legacy projects, among others.

The VC added that the colloquium will focus on tertiary education in Africa within the context of today’s dynamic globalised knowledge economy and tech-driven world.
