Pro-Fubara Rivers Assembly screens, clear Iboroma as commissioner-designate

Victor Oko Jumbo, Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Fubara

The pro-Fubara Rivers State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Dagogo Iboroma as commissioner designate and member of the Rivers State Executive Council.

Iboroma is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who hails from Okrika Local government area of the state.

The Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, before reading the correspondence from Governor Fubara, commended the governor for providing an alternative venue for the lawmakers to conduct their legislative sitting until the hollowed chamber is rebuilt.

Oko-Jumbo recalled that members were shocked in December 2023 when unknown hoodlums burnt down the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, however, describing the intervention of the Governor as swift.


The House Leader and member representing Ahoada West constituency, Sokari Goodboy Sokari, based on the pronouncement moved a motion for the auditorium of the administrative block government house to be adopted as the hollowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly and was seconded by the Deputy Speaker Adolphus Timothy Orubienimigha, Member representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency.

While reading the correspondence from Fubara, Oko-Jumbo said the Governor requested that the nominee be screened and confirmed by lawmakers.

Commencing debate on the screening, House Leader Sokari urged members to confirm the nominee based on his pedigree.


Other members who spoke including, the Deputy Speaker Timothy supported the position of the Leader while adding that the nominee has all it takes to support the Governor to move the State forward.

Consequently, the Speaker, at the end of the debate divided the house through a voice vote and all members present voted unanimously for the confirmation of the nominee.

Earlier, while fielding questions from Lawmakers, the nominee, Iboroma said his commitment is to the government and people of the State.


He stressed that everyone should be guided by the rule of law which he said will always prevail.

Briefing members of the Rivers State House of Assembly Press Corps shortly after the screening, the House Leader, who said the house has fully resumed legislative sittings also commended the Governor for the provision of alternative venue.

Rivers State Government Order 001 of 2023 recently relocated the sitting of the State House of Assembly temporarily to the Auditorium of the Administrative section of Government House, Port Harcourt.

The order is in pursuant to the burning of the hallowed chambers of the State Assembly in October 2023 by hoodlums.
