The Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) for its role in the provision of infrastructure in public tertiary institutions across the country.

In a chat with The Guardian at the 2024 TETFund Strategic Planning Meeting in Abuja, the renowned Mass Communications scholar explained that the intervention agency has been phenomenal in terms of the provision of state-of-the-art infrastructure, facilities and equipment in higher institutions.

The academic disclosed that Nigeria is now the cynosure of all eyes as other African countries are under-studying our model in the funding of tertiary institutions.

“I have interacted with heads of institutions, vice chancellors, rectors from different parts of the world When we tell them about TETFund, they marvel at it. And there are some African countries who have said they want to copy the TETFund pattern.

“It is an assistance that will go a long way in helping the beneficiary institutions immensely on very significant areas of educational development,” he said .

The erudite scholar underscored the need for government to explore private sector partnership in funding tertiary education, especially in building hostels.

On allegations of degree racketeering by foreign and local private universities, the Rector commended steps taken by the Federal Government to unravel the matter.
