The Statistician-General of the Federation/Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Adeyemi Adeniran has disclosed that the agency is working with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and other stakeholders to generate data that will enhance decision-making in the housing industry.

Adeniran, who stated this at the investiture of the new President, Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Akintoye Adeoye in Lagos, said they plan to gather the needed data on housing availability and determine the current housing deficit. He said the data will help government, and industry players, especially in planning and implementing policies to grow the industry.

He said: “NBS will deliver the data to enable public and private sectors to achieve the goal of providing affordable housing for all Nigerians. The partnership between the two bodies will reduce urban and rural housing deficit.”

Adeniran observed that REDAN plays a vital role in housing provision, and expressed confidence that the new president will not relent in pursuing the mandate.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the association, Mr Seyi Lufadeju, urged the new executives to work together towards expanding access to affordable housing, ensuring adherence to professional ethics and stimulating the nation’s development through the housing industry.

He warned that the association must justify the confidence reposed on it by Nigerians and its past leaders, by joining hands with the government to develop housing.

Lufadeju noted that the new president brings in the best of experience having worked with past leaders and learnt a lot from them, adding that he will elevate the association, and real estate industry as a man of integrity and character

Speaking on the vision for the association, Adeoye assured that the leadership will focus on promoting positive change and advancement within the real estate industry through advocacy, transparency, technology, ethics, credibility and discipline.

Adeoye declared that REDAN will establish robust partnerships with the public and private sectors and Non-Governmental Organisations and international bodies, and the federal and state governments on critical issues such as land reforms, governance, and land administration, which will foster a conducive environment for investments.

He stressed that REDAN will take a leadership position in ensuring transparency in the sector by creating regulatory frameworks and governance for the real estate industry, as well as collaborating with stakeholders to advocate the recapitalisation of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria as a window for affordable housing.

“We will invest in research that cuts across new construction measures, methods, clean energy, and property prices. Facilitate the acquisition of relevant skill sets and technologies for modern construction. Encourage participating developers and stakeholders to contribute to innovation and sustainability across the real estate value chain.

“This will provide members with exclusive access to market intelligence reports, data analytics, and research insights that can help them make informed decisions and stay ahead of market trends. REDAN will also collaborate and support members in building capacity and facilitating digital infrastructure and innovation for their businesses,” Adeoye added.

In his valedictory address, outgone President, Dr Aliyu Wamakko, called on government at the federal, state and local councils to support REDAN, as the association is working for the progress, stability, sustainability and prosperity of the country.

He said that REDAN is dedicated to improving the lives of Nigerians and thanked members for supporting the leaders of the association.
