PTML Customs facilitates 159MT of export in 2023

The Port Terminal Multiservice Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it facilitated exports with a total tonnage of about 159,314.23 metric tonnes with N49.9 billion free on board (FOB) value in 2023.

The Customs Area Controller of the command, Saidu Yusuf, who disclosed this to journalists, said N256.3 billion was collected as revenue in the year under review.

He said the 2023 collection is N26.8 billion higher than the N229.4 billion recorded in 2022, which represents an increase of 12 per cent.

Speaking on the anti-smuggling activities, Yusuf said the command, because of diligent cargo examination and deployment of intelligence, uncovered attempts to smuggle arms and ammunition, expired tomato concentrates, used tyres and fridges into the country’s total duty paid value of (DPV) value of N158.4 million.

He said five suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures and have been granted administrative bail.

Speaking on trade facilitation, Yusuf said within the period under review, the command sustained its average three-hour clearance time of vehicles for compliant traders.
