Ramadan: Sharia council asks FG to expand social safety net

Ramadan

Supreme Council for Shari’ah has urged the Federal Government to expand the social safety net to provide immediate relief to the most vulnerable during the Ramadan period.

The council also applauded President Bola Tinubu and ECOWAS for lifting sanctions on Niger Republic, Guinea and Mali.

President of the council, Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiytullah, stated this in his address at a pre-Ramadan meeting held at the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) headquarters in Kaduna, Tuesday.

“In this regard, we appeal to federal and state governments to provide immediate relief and succour to the multitudes of the disadvantaged against the stifling economic hardships. In addition, we call on all governments to also consider organising community feeding for them, in as many centres, especially during the time of iftar”, he stated.

Maintaining that the practices of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQI+) is against Nigeria’s culture, Hadiytullah observed that religious leaders were still vehemently against any attempt to soften the position of Nigeria on LGBT.
