The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 44, has donated waste bins to SurulereCouncil, Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), schools and others.

Making the donation, the Provincial Pastor, Amos Emovon said the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, orchestrated thegesture tomake Lagos environment cleaner and safer. He stated that the Cleaner Lagos Initiative would ensure Lagos maintains its Centre of Excellence status and also to give the communities the avenue to properly dispose their wastes.

Emovon said: “That goal will be achieved when we have a good environment, and for us as a church, we preach that God expects us to be clean, so we want to walk the talk, what we preach. We want to actualise it and help our members and community to ensure that they don’t dispose their wastes indiscriminately. We want to give them an avenue to properly dispose their wastes.”

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, who was represented by a Director in the ministry, Babajide Adeoye, lauded the project and stressed the need to collaborate with private sectors to make every part of the state a better place.

Stating that government would continue to work with private sector, the commissioner called on organisations to come together to ensure that their communities are clean.

“We are working with the private sector to ensure evacuation of wastes. We will achieve so much by working together and our communities would be better for it,” he said.

Onikate of Ikate, Oba Lateef Adams, commended the church for the initiative and urged the beneficiaries to use the bins properly. The Assistant Pastor-in-Charge of Province (APICP) LP44, Ajibola Opeoluwa-Calebs, disclosed that the gesture was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the church, saying that 100 waste bins were distributed to all the beneficiaries including traders, primary and secondary schools, palaces, Community Development Associations (CDAs), police stations, churches and mosques, among others.
