State Assembly urges gov to dissolve parastatals, MDAs, others
Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to reconstitute the State Executive Council (EXCO), noting that it is necessary to appoint his team after 14 days he dissolved his expanded exco.
The party also asked the governor to take all proactive measures to tackle rising insecurity in the state, resulting in killings and attacks by gunmen.
In a statement issued, yesterday, by the acting State Publicity Secretary of the party, Emenike Nmeregini, PDP condemned what it called “sudden break in administrative process” in the state.
The statement noted: “It is 14 days running since the business of governance has been put on hold in Imo State. It would be recalled that the State Expanded Executive Council was dissolved on January 26, 2024 by Governor Hope Uzodimma. Till date, Imo State operates without an executive council, as the governor has not reconstituted any yet.
“The state chapter of the PDP, therefore, condemns this act of sudden break in administrative process, with its concomitant breach in good governance delivery in the state.
“The party, therefore, calls on the governor to make haste and reconstitute the state exco to commence immediate rehabilitation of the already battered and dilapidated sectors in the state.
“Nature, they say, abhors vacuum. Indeed, the state does not need this unnecessary break at a time when all structures in the state have collapsed. Already there is general despondency across the state, as the majority of the populace is suffering due to the excruciating pains of hunger occasioned by a rudderless administration.”
The statement lamented that the current state of Imo is most deplorable, and calls for immediate attention to save it from further deterioration and possible backlash.
The PDP maintained the fact that the outcome of the election that brought Uzodimma back to power was still challenged, should not deter the administrative process in the state.
MEANWHILE, the 27-member Imo State House of Assembly, yesterday, urged Uzodimma to dissolve all the boards of parastatals, Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as and Local Government Development Centre Coordinators, extra-ministerial departments and commissions in the state.
The lawmakers also urged the governor to appoint fresh people to take the place of those to be relieved of their positions.
According to the House presided over by the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, the proposal, if adhered to, would enable fresh blood and increased productivity to take place, stressing that the new appointees should be considered based on “excellence, merit and commitment.”
