There was excitement yesterday among residents of Mushin and Surulere Local Councils as Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila commissioned some constituency projects in Surulere Federal Constituency 1, Lagos.

Gbajabiamila said he has constructed/rehabilitated over 100 roads since June 2019.

The roads commissioned yesterday are Mabo-Fashoro, Bishop link road, Shodipe Akobi Crescent, Owokoniran-Laniyan link road, Odejayi crescent,   Olodeokuta street, Ramos street, Iponri zone A, B and D, Rosamond street, Mayday Road, Bishop Kaale,  Royal Estate road, Bishop Howell and Eric Moore Towers road.

Expressing his happiness, Chairman, Community Development Association (CDA), Games Village, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, Johnson Oguns, said:  “We have never had it so good for the past 30 years. This road enhances the value of the estate and the lifespan of our people will increase. The state of the road before now was terrible; it takes someone 10 to 20 minutes to drive through the estate; it affects our vehicles, but now we have a rest of mind.

A community leader, Chief Bamidele Aduke Hussein extolled the Speaker for creating social impact on his constituency.
He said: “We are smiling because we have seen a miracle in the Speaker. He has done so much. From Thursday to Sunday, January 2, 22, we’ve commissioned so many roads and we’re still commissioning. It’s not just roads, he has constructed hospitals and he’s still constructing more. He has constructed schools and he’s given out educational materials to schools and empowered so many people.”

The commissioning followed the Saturday commissioning of a 40 KVA Solar panel Inverter and 40 KVA generator at Randle Hospital, Randle Avenue Street, his visit to the Heart of Gold Hospice and commissioning of a 1.7-kilometre road in Babs Animashaun street, Surulere, Lagos.

The speaker, who was accompanied by the representative of Surulere 1 at the Lagos House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot; Chairman, Surulere Local Council, Bamidele Sulaimon Yusuf and other leaders in the area on Saturday also visited the ongoing conversion of the Femi Gbajabiamila Primary Health Centre to a multi-storey hospital at Iyun Road, Surulere. He also inspected the ongoing Abalti Barracks Mini Stadium and a 1000 capacity hostel for international students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Speaking on the projects, he said: “For me, if you identify yourself as a Nigerian, then you must also identify yourself with every other Nigerian from all the six geopolitical zones of the country, once we can have that mindset as a country and look out of each other, then we can better develop our country. We have so many potentials; God has blessed us in this country.

He added: “if you look at the sectors we started commissioning in three days, which are health, road infrastructure, and most importantly, education. The hostel for international students is something after my heart and the project will be done by April, this year. My message is very clear to Nigerians, peace and unity can only bring one thing and it is progress, no progress without unity.

“Education must always take its rightful place in every developed society, education remains the bedrock of every society, the society cannot move forward without education. No child must be left behind, education to me is not a privilege but a right and we must treat it as a right.
