Some residents and motorists have lamented the deplorable state of inner roads within the Oshodi-Isolo axis of Lagos State.

One of the inner roads in bad shape is the Isolo/Jakande Gate Road, with the road inflicting more pains on residents and motorists especially it rains because the roads would submerged by rain water resulting chaotic traffic along the corridor.

Another of such bad roads within the Isolo axis is the Aswani Market Road which has become a pain in the neck for commercial bus drivers and tricycle operators who ply the road every day to make daily living.

There are other roads within the area begging for government quick attention and one of such is the Mafoluku Road in Mafoluku-Oshodi area. The road, which serves as a major link to connect streets within Oshodi, is in a horrible state.

A Chief Security Officer with one of the companies in Isolo, who pleaded anonymity, said companies operating around Aswani Market Road have been meetings on how to rehabilitate the road as it seems government do not want to construct the road.

He said the companies within the axis have been pouring stones on failed portions of the road but said it would be better if government rehabilitate the road.

He said: “We have been making efforts on our own to repair the road, but there is little self-help can do. Therefore, we need the government to intervene and assist us by constructing the road.”

A bus drive, Mr. Kola David, who plies Ikotun/Oshodi route, said the bad road has affected his business negatively.
He said: “The bad road damages my vehicle. I have to repair it on almost on a daily basis. I appeal to government to rehabilitate this road.”

A trader at Aswani Market, Mr. Godwin Ibezim, said government should not only fill the road with stones but should do a total overhaul of the road disclosing that trucks and trailers delivering goods to traders are usually not very receptive to conveying goods to the market.

He said: “We appeal to the Lagos State government to come repair this road because it will help to improve the economy of the state and better the lives of the traders and people living in this area.”

A commercial bus driver, Mr. Kayode Bello, who plies the Mafoluku to Oshodi, said the road is totally bad which is why his vehicles and that of his colleagues get damaged easily adding that they visit mechanics weekly to repair their vehicles.

The Public Relation Officer, Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Samuel Adetutu, said the Ikotun/Ejigbo/Isolo road is a federal road.

Adetutu said his agency usually fill the potholes on the road with stones which makes it a passable, while waiting for the right authority to take up the responsibility to repair the road.”
