Rima Strikers of Sokoto on Tuesday shocked former champions Kano Pillars 32-27 on matchday two of the ongoing Ardova Handball Premier League holding in Benin, Edo State.

The Sokoto side defended resolutely and made good use of the scoring chances that came their way to record the famous victory.

Pillars struggled against Correction Boys on Monday despite winning 18-17 and seemed not to have recovered from last season’s unimpressive form, which saw them losing their title to Niger United.

Pillar’s coach, Solomon Yola, who said they had overcome their poor goal scoring record, will now have to device a means to halt his team’s poor form and ensure they take the scoring chances that they create in games.

In the women category, Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri made it two wins from two games after beating Delta Queens 35-27. They had defeated D.Defenders 29-27 on Monday.

Grasshoppers, who had struggled in previous years after dominating the league in the 90s and early 2000, seem to have rediscovered the winning touch.
