Rivers APC chairman urges Fubara to resign

Governor Sim Fubara

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, has charged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to stop bordering the state with conditional statements and resign for the good of the state.

Recall that the governor, while speaking during an interview with the African Independent Television (AIT), last week, stated that “no sacrifice is too big for him to pay for the success of the state,” adding that he was willing to give up his office if that would entrench peace in the state.

The governor reportedly made a similar statement after the peace accord between him and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was signed.

Addressing the media, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Okocha said that the governor was struggling within himself, urging him (Fubara) to remove the clause ‘if’ and resign.

The state APC Chairman said: “If you want to resign, do that and relieve yourself. In fact, APC demands the resignation of Fubara.”

He explained that the problem between the governor and his godfather, Wike, was about the breach of agreement.

Meanwhile, lawmakers in the state have further amended the Rivers State Local Government Law, despite Fubara’s refusal to assent to the previous version of the bill.

The governor had cited nonconformity with the 1999 Constitution as amended.
The State House of Assembly has given the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024 its first reading at its 118th Legislative Sitting.
