Rivers Assembly passes N200b suplementary budget to law

The Rivers State House of Assembly passed the State Government 2023 Supplementary Budget to the tune of two hundred billion Naira on the floor of the house, yesterday.

This follows the presentation of the report on public hearing during plenary by the chairman of the Adhoc committee on appropriation of the Rivers State Government 2023 Supplementary Budget of N 200bn Igwe Oforji, member representing Eleme state constituency.

The speaker of the house, Martin Amaewhule shortly after rising from the committee of supply said the supplimentary budget will better the lives of Rivers people and will create economic opportunities.


The Speaker, while reporting progress on the Bill in Plenary averred that the passage of the Bill was to encourage proper funding of the Port Harcourt Ring Road Project, And to ensure early Commencement and Completion of the project.

He said the approval would eliminate abandonment of projects which is in sync with the Consolidation and Continuity spirit of the administration.

Recall that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara forwarded the Supplementary Appropriation Bill to the House on Friday, 30th June, 2023 through a letter, which was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker.

Also, the leader of the house, Edison Ehie who led the debate, argued that the funds will focus on deepening infrastructural development in the state.

According to him: “This is solely a capital budget, it means that this government understands that Rivers Poeple what we need at this moment is a continuous growth in infrastructural development.”

The house, however, adjoured sitting till Monday 10th, July, 2023.
