Rivers gets new speaker as Fubara proclaims 10th Assembly

The Rivers State House of Assembly has elected the 10th assembly speaker and deputy speaker to pilot the affairs of the house for the next four years.


The lawmaker representing Obio/Apkor constituency 1, Martin Amaewhule was elected speaker while the lawmakers representing Gokana constituency, Dumle Mao was elected the Deputy Speaker.

Amaewhule, who was the leader of the 9th Assembly was elected yesterday after the 10th Assembly was proclaimed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara through a nomination by a lawmaker representing Okrika state constituency Linda Somiari Stalwart, and seconded by Major Jack of Akuku- Toru constituency.

The new Speaker, Martin Amaewhule while speaking shortly after the oath of office promised a top class Assembly that will come up with legislation that will stand the taste of time.

He also announced that the 10th Assembly will be a unifying factor while ensuring that all they will do will be for the benefit of the State.

The new speaker, however, thanked Governor for proclaiming the Assembly and also the immediate past Governor, Nyesom Wike for his developmental strides in the state.

He as well thanked the staff of the Assembly for assisting in the government business.

The new speaker who is in his fourth term was unanimously voted for by all members present and the house adjured sitting till next Wednesday 7th 2023.
