Rivers residents raise alarm over rising heat wave

Residents in Rivers State have raised the alarm over a devastating heat wave, which has been worsened by the lack of power supply and economic woes.In Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Ikwere, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Oyigbo and the four local councils in Ogoni land, residents lamented the severe hot weather, which has attained intolerable proportions.

The Guardian observed that even when it rains, two hours later, the weather will become very hot. Consequently, the epileptic power supply and current economic realities have exacerbated the challenges. some residents, in an interview, expressed worry that despite the hot weather, there is no electricity supply to enable those using fans or air-conditioning systems to power them.

They further lamented that the heat, coupled with the current scarcity and hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, has made it extremely difficult for an average citizen to sleep at night.

Sadly, the development has begun to affect the health of residents, including children, women, and men. Interactions with some residents revealed that they have resorted to taking their bath two or three times at night to enable them to sleep, since there appears to be no solution yet to the heat problem.
