As the fuel scarcity and hike in price continued unabated, Rivers State residents have urged the President -elect, Muhammadu Buhari to examine critically the issues concerning subsidy payment.

Meanwhile residents and motorists in the State have been having a hellish experience on daily basis due to unending fuel scarcity.

Long queues have persisted in the oil rich city as most filling stations shut down services due to unavailability of the products, while few station that have, sell between N100 to N180 per litre, except few  major marketers that still sell N87 per litre, but buyers must be ready to spend at least 24 hours to get the product.

Some residents said it is ridiculous and shameful for an oil producing country to be going through such ugly experiences.

Speaking on the situation, a private motorist at the Total filling Station along Ikwere road, Mr. Christopher Sokari reasoned that rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries remains one of the best ways in resolving the fuel problems.

He said that if the local refineries become functional, the idea of fuel importation would be a thing of the past and the cabals who are taking it as an advantage to sabotage the country would be out of business, while life becomes easy for an average Nigerian.

In his own remarks, a medical doctor, Dr. Ekwu Onyemaechi said privatization of the refineries should be properly carried out to ensure healthy competition.

He said if the refineries are properly privatized, the forces of equilibrium will work thereby compelling the competitors to sell at a reduced price.

An artisan, Mr Innocent Ola whose shop is located along Rumuosi Juntion lamented that Nigerians are used to suffering, while the political leaders and the cabals in the oil sector live in affluence.

He disclosed that with the unabated fuel scarcity and unusual increase in price, he can no longer fuel his generator as his customers may not be willing to pay the exorbitant bills he will charge them as a result of lack of fuel.

A filling station attendant at Total filling station along Rumukpuku, told The Guardian that they constantly get insufficient products.

He disclosed that ideally, the station is expected to receive at least two trucks daily, instead they get one or half truck daily which is grossly inadequate.
